Marion County Detention Center Releases
Marion County Detention Center is a county jail and contract receiving facility. Washington County does not operate an active jail, so people arrested or charged there may be transported to Marion County for booking and custody. When a person leaves the Lebanon facility, the jail's movement record should identify the date, time, recorded authority, and destination. That departure can be a community release, but it can also be a transfer that continues custody.
Community release may follow bond, recognizance, dismissal with no other hold, time served, sentence expiration, probation, or another court order. A transfer to the Kentucky Department of Corrections means incarceration continues in the state system. Another county or warrant agency may take custody as well. Parole or mandatory reentry supervision ends physical prison or jail custody but begins or continues supervision in the community. A federal or immigration transfer also is not freedom from custody.

Request Marion Detention Center Release Records
Ask for existing records rather than a new explanation. A focused request identifies the person and approximate booking period, states that the arrest or case arose in Washington County, and seeks the booking sheet, custody-movement history, release timestamp, release authority or code, transfer destination, receiving agency, and hold or detainer disposition. Request the booking photograph only if it remains public and relevant to that booking.
Kentucky's Open Records Act applies subject to exemptions and procedural rules. KRS 61.872 addresses inspection and request mechanics. KRS 61.880 generally requires a written decision within five business days. A denial should identify the exception and explain its application. Ask for reasonably separable nonexempt portions.
No official source published a set fee for a Marion release record. Ask for electronic copies in their existing format and request a cost estimate before authorizing paper copies or postage. Marion Detention Center Roster Limits
The Marion public roster was configured at research time to show current offenders only. Images were enabled. That backend value cannot be advertised as a public archive or promise that a former booking remains online for any set period.
A current name indicates that the roster still reports Marion custody. An absent name can reflect release, transfer, a data correction, escape, death, or another change. It does not supply the destination or legal reason. Use the movement record for the custody fact, then the court order or receiving agency for context.

Washington Court and Kentucky DOC Records
The custody trail can involve three systems. Washington County law enforcement may hold the arrest report. The Washington County Circuit Court Clerk holds court documents for District and Circuit cases, including bond orders, dispositions, judgments, sentences, jail-credit terms, probation orders, and revocations. Marion County Detention Center holds the physical booking and movement entry. A court order may authorize release, but the jail entry proves when the physical movement occurred.
If Marion transferred the person to state custody, use Kentucky Offender Online Lookup. Read the current location, status, PID or DOC number, sentence fields, and supervision information together. A prison location means incarceration continues. A Probation and Parole location can indicate community supervision. A projected date or parole-eligibility date does not prove that release has happened.
The KY DOC Daily Releases archive can corroborate an actual state-system release. Its PDFs list DOC number, Type of Release, and Released From. A county jail may appear as the releasing facility for a state inmate. Match by DOC number and preserve exact wording, especially any reference to a detainer. County-only pretrial or short-stay releases may never appear in that state archive.
Washington County's Closed Jail
Washington County's former jail has been closed since at least the late 1970s. The county still elects a jailer and lists that office at 124 East Main Street in Springfield, but this does not mean an operating detention facility exists there. Stale directories can blur that distinction and send release inquiries to the wrong place.
The current custody location is Marion County Detention Center at 201 Warehouse Road in Lebanon. That historical and institutional detail explains why the arrest record and prosecution remain in Washington County while the booking and release movement are recorded in Marion County. Search both jurisdictions according to the record each one owns.
The official Washington County directory documents the local jailer and sheriff offices. The historical Kentucky jail study documents the old jail's closure. Neither source replaces the current Marion movement record.
Marion Detention Center Transfer Records
Marion County Detention Center has had a U.S. Marshals intergovernmental detention agreement. The agreement is relevant because “released from Marion” can mean a handoff to USMS custody. It does not prove that every person held there is a federal detainee, that the agreement remains current, or that a specific departure was federal. Verify the current arrangement and the person's movement entry.
USMS controls many federal defendants from court-ordered custody through release, acquittal, or delivery to the Bureau of Prisons. Its prisoner tracking system is not a public historical locator. When Marion's record names USMS, use the federal court docket or order and contact the responsible Marshals office. If the person entered a federal prison sentence, the BOP inmate locator can show a release date or current status.
An immigration detainer can also lead to continued custody, though no current ICE detention contract was verified for Washington County or Marion County Detention Center. If the movement record names ICE, use the ICE detainee locator and follow up with the agency. No result can reflect timing, search mismatch, removal, or other limits.
